Jr. League of Nashville Cake Pops

This week I was honored to participate in the Jr. League of Nashville's 90th Birthday Celebration. Pictured to the left are the pops I did as one of the centerpieces. Not pictured, the 370 other pops I did for dessert.....I actually can't believe I forgot to take a picture...fortunately other photographers were there!

These pops were inspired by the beautiful colorful ribbon surrounding the container....they were so bright and cheerful, and a joy to make. I'll be honest, here....I needed a little joy this week. I cake popped this week with a very heavy heart. Our community here in Nashville, and specifically here in Spring Hill, TN lost a loving husband and father. I was lucky enough to know him as he was a member of my Sunday school class. He died suddenly, unexpectedly....It so reminded me of how important it is to take the time to appreciate ALL the people around us...not to sweat the small stuff so much, and yes, to find joy in the little things....even cake pops.

Many Many thanks go out to the folks at Wedding 101 and the Jr. League for including me in the very special 90th birthday celebration. Additionally, I want to thank Prim and Paper (right here in Franklin, TN) for the GORGEOUS tags she made for the cake pops....and again thanks to Tiffany at Wedding 101 for cutting out said tags....all 350 of them! Enjoy - Julie

The Story Behind the Cake Pops

Funny thing about making cake pops....there is always a story behind the pop. Not surprising, I guess, as most people that order are celebrating something....a wedding, a birthday, a baby shower. These pops, however, are a little different as the 'story' this time is a little bit my own.

When I received a call a little over a week ago asking if I could do cake pops with a logo for a fitness company, my main thought (honestly) was how??? How will I get these done with my other orders? How will I get the logo to look just right? So I did a few demos...try 6....maybe 9. I painted that image, I piped it, I traced it. You get the idea, there were a LOT of copies of that little logo hanging around. The logo seemed familiar, somehow....but then, after you pipe something 150+ times, its going to feel familiar, to say the least....so I thought.

And then, it happened. My Ah-ha moment. I went for a very early morning run and got into my sock drawer (above).....see anything....familiar? Balega!!!! My favorite brand of socks....the only ones I've worn for at least the past 7 years (if you are a runner you MUST get a pair or two of these....pure awesomeness). Many thanks and much success, Balega and the Genesis Agency....they were a blast to make....and now you know the rest of the story.

Cake Pop "cake" at Wedding 101 in Franklin, TN

Labor of Love pictured to the left....I have (half jokingly) shared with friends and family that I experienced less labor giving birth x 3 than with the cake pop "cake" pictured to the left. I do love how it turned out, though!
This design is made up of almost 200 pops and 3 tiers. Its a beautiful though non traditional cake, sure to make any event extra special.
Let me take a moment to ouuu and ahhhh over the "cherry blossoms" on the side. They were made be the creative and uber talent Lisa Poel of WhimWed. You MUST check out her site at www.whimwed.com. Whimwed makes beautiful handcrafted bouquets and home decor products as well. You can see more of the WhimWed products and this cake pop "cake" (this one is a display) at Wedding 101 in Franklin....and check out my facebook page or Wedding 101's for my next cake pop tasting.
